Report – Reflections from Pathways’ response to Cyclone Alfred

This report highlights the experiences of people with disability during Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, drawing on enquiries received by Disability Advocacy Pathways over a 10-day period. It reveals significant gaps in disaster preparedness and emergency response systems, including limited access to essential supplies, breakdowns in disability support services, and a lack of accessible, coordinated information.

The report also documents how systemic barriers—such as NDIS inflexibility, domestic and family violence risks, and inadequate evacuation options—left many individuals in unsafe or unsupported situations. Pathways played a critical role in escalating concerns and connecting people to vital resources, underscoring the need for inclusive, disability-responsive disaster planning in Queensland.
