QIDAN submission – NDIS Regulatory Reform
QIDAN welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission on the NDIS regulatory reform. This submission focuses on the Mandatory Registration of SIL providers and Support Coordinator consultation. Our views and recommendations provided in this submission reflect our advocacy experience assisting Queenslanders with disability. In drafting this submission, QIDAN reviewed the NDIS Provider and Worker Registration Taskforce Advice (‘the Taskforce Advice’) and held a consultation with advocates, to seek input and feedback on questions included in the consultation paper.
We provided a total of 9 recommendations, focused on:
- 1. The need to invest in funding for disability advocacy to support people with disability understand the upcoming changes
- 2. Ensuring the following principles guide the proposed changes: human rights, inclusion and accessibility, dignity of risk and supported decision-making, and choice and control.
- 3. Calling for an immediate implementation of some of the Taskforce Advice recommendations.
- 4. Ensuring nobody is left without supports or services.
- 5. Investing in the development and implementation of a cultural mapping initiatives in collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- 6. Ensuring compliance with existing standards during transition period.
- 7. Ensuring service providers continue to deliver supports during transition.
- 8. Calling for meaningful and genuine conversation and consultations with people who are the most affected by changes.
- 9. Proactive communications initiated by the NDIA and the NDIS Commission to ensure people are aware of and can prepare for changes.
